Position Announcement: Director of Research

Carthage Innovative Swine Solutions, LLC, seeks a Director of Research, based in Carthage, Illinois. The Director of Research is responsible for discussing projects with sponsors, writing proposals, reviewing final reports, coordinating meetings with various CVS departments to ensure teamwork, presenting results, overseeing budgets and financial aspects of the business and ensuring that the projects are following company standard operating procedures and trial protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the CVS department managers
  • Hold regular meetings with sponsors, production staff, advisory group and veterinarians
  • Meet with CISS Manager, Project Manager and team weekly
  • Write proposals and budgets
  • Complete final reports
  • Present data
  • Oversee CSRC activities and meet with group
  • Conduct data analysis and report writing as needed
  • Ensure that projects meet Animal Care requirements
  • Manage alarms or emergencies as they occur
  • Continually improve processes and efficiencies, the company business plan and personal work goals
  • Assist any visiting interns in learning aspects of swine production and running any trials
  • Adhere to the company’s confidentiality protocol
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Knowledge and Skills

  • Computer knowledge for basic programs
  • Detail oriented
  • Verbal and written communication
  • People and leadership skills
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Knowledge of pig production
  • Knowledge of trial setup

Education and Work Experience

  1. PhD degree OR
  2. A Master’s degree in Animal Science AND
  3. 7-10 years’ experience in the Animal Science field, preferably Swine industry

Mental and Physical Demands

  1. Ability to perform in highly interruptive conditions
  2. Strong oral and written communication skills
  3. Ability to work under frequent time pressures
  4. Ability to solve complex problems
  5. Ability to stand on concrete for extended periods of time
  6. Ability to lift 50 lbs repetitively
  7. Ability to push, pull, carry items on regular basis
