Position Announcement: Associate Director – Health

The Maschhoffs, the largest independent pork producers in the U.S., is looking for an Associate Director – Health, located within 60 mile radius of Pittsfield, Illinois.

Job Overview

Responsible for overall health performance of a regional farrow to finish commercial asset portfolio. Communicate vision and core values to ensure execution of systems-based strategy. Direct pig health management activities in accordance with company health strategy within the asset portfolio. Deploy innovation to deliver best-in-class quality products and services to a growing and diversified customer base. Establish team excellence in setting priorities, making timely decisions, planning, and managing through systems. Expand capability and capacity of the team by driving development of individuals, motivating others, and delegating effectively.

1. Typical Duties of an Associate Director – Health Include:

  • Operating and Financial Performance of Regional Asset Portfolio
  • Develop annual operating goals and operating budgets.
  • Develop annual capital improvement plans and investment budgets.
  • Monitor, review, and analyze financial performance data.
  • Analyze root cause of health issues, identify effective countermeasures, and execute plans to restore good health.

2. Strategic Planning and Program Execution

  • Ensure that company vision and mission are understood by entire chain of command.
  • Develop and execute a fully integrated Annual Operating Plan that drives the short and long-term strategic health objectives of the company. This includes biosecurity, disease identification and treatment, diagnostic collection and submission, and residue withdrawal monitoring
  • Be accountable to report progress against the Operating Plan to General Manager.
  • Develop, update, and train best management practices to ensure strong execution in the field.
  • Implement best practice principles in hog production and leverage the systems’ framework to rapidly deploy research innovation in the field.

3. Team Leadership

  • Provide daily leadership to a Team of direct reports through strong communication, active planning, priority setting, effective delegation, and routine coaching of management behaviors
  • Develop successors at each critical position in the organizational structure
  • Utilize Human Resources and related systems to analyze workforce needs, recruit, hire, train, on-board, and retain the best qualified personnel

4. Sustainability and Stewardship

  • Ensure that all best management practices are consistent with the Maschhoffs Animal Well-Being Standards.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure that hog production is conducted in a manner that safeguards the environment and maintains regulatory compliance and customer compliance.

5. Customer Service and Partnership

  • Collaborate and closely align with other departments to consistently and efficiently deliver best-in-class quality products and services to our customers.
  • Encourage and foster seamless working relationships with support divisions.
  • Implement and maintain a site auditing and corrective action system to identify and solve problems.
  • Accountable for strengthening relationships with all customers.
  • Participate in public relations and public policy opportunities as directed to help build and protect the Maschhoff brand image.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

DVM degree required.

Experience:

2 years preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Swine disease pathology, immunology, epidemiology, and diagnostics
  • Animal science as applied in modern pig production systems
  • Business and financial key performance indicators in pig production
  • Quality Management Systems and Process Verification
  • Company vision and strategy
  • Customer expectations

Skill in:

  • Learning agility, dealing with ambiguity, and adaptation to a rapidly changing business environment
  • Organization, planning, priority setting, and complex project management
  • Using computer software tools such as Microsoft Outlook, CRM, and SharePoint
  • Written and verbal communication

Ability to:

  • Read financial statements and production operating reports
  • Analyze complex business problems and make timely, high quality business decisions
