The University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM),Veterinary Population Medicine Department announces the recruitment of candidates for the prestigious Allen D. Leman Chair in Swine Health and Productivity. We are seeking an individual with an established record as a leader in swine health and productivity. This non-tenure track faculty position has an initial appointment of up to five years and is thereafter annually renewable. The appointment is at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor, dependent upon qualifications and experience consistent with collegiate and University policy.
Requirements
Candidates must have either a DVM or a PhD or an equivalent degree from a foreign University, along with significant experience and recognition as a leader in swine health and productivity. The candidate must also have a strong interest and potential to develop a well-funded research program. The research program must focus on swine and may include areas such as biosecurity, food safety/security, infectious disease, nutrition, pharmacology, welfare or other disciplines related to swine health and productivity. The candidate’s vision must align with the College and Department’s strategic goals and programmatic plans. The candidate must demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of the breadth of issues facing the global pork industry. The candidate must have excellent communication/presentation skills and will be expected to build collaborative programs among swine and other faculty in the Food Centric Corridor.
Preferred
Candidates with both a DVM degree or equivalent and an advanced degree (i.e. PhD, MS, MPH) are preferred. Recent practice experience in swine, either in private practice or in an academic ambulatory practice, is also preferred. Demonstrated skills in risk communication with the media and the general public are desired. Candidates are encouraged to become eligible for licensure in veterinary medicine in the state of Minnesota (http://www.vetmed.state.mn.us/) and/or be board certified in a recognized specialty college (e.g. ACVPM or ABVP).
Duties
The Chair’s efforts will be to develop and lead an innovative, collaborative, and impactful research and outreach program targeted at professionals involved in the pork industry. The research component of this position may be translational or fundamental to complement and provide unique expertise to existing programs. The Chair position has latitude to define the area of focus, but will include significant input and interaction with various professional groups and organizations in the pork industry at the local, national, and global levels. Duties include engagement in strategic and social issues related to swine health and production. The successful candidate will have an important facilitation role within the pork industry, swine research, veterinary training, producer education, and continuing education for practitioners. The Chair will be encouraged to provide leadership and serve as a catalyst for collaboration among swine faculty and various Departments and Centers at the University including the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Center for Animal Health and Food Safety, Food Centric Corridor, and the Swine Disease Eradication Center.
