Applications for the Pork Checkoff’s 2014-2015 pork industry scholarships are now open, and students are encouraged to apply.
“Developing the next generation of leaders and decision-makers is critical to sustaining the pork industry,” said Chris Hostetler, animal science director for the Pork Checkoff.
Scholarship opportunities are available to all juniors and seniors in college who plan to pursue a career in swine production management or a related field. Scholarships are also offered to students who are seeking to attend graduate school and major in a discipline with an emphasis on swine.
A survey of previous scholarship winners revealed that 80 percent are pursing advanced degrees in preparation to serve the industry as veterinarians, nutritionists, reproductive biologists and management consultants, Hostetler noted.
