Kober Receives Birth of a Purebred Award

Dr Jim Kober was recognized as the Birth of a Pure Bred Award recipient at the Large Animal Reception at the Michigan Veterinary Conference on January 25. This award is given to an alumnus of Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine or a private practitioner within the state of Michigan who practices in food animal medicine and has played an active role in mentoring veterinary students.

Dr Kober earned his DVM degree in 1987 from Michigan State University and an MS degree from Iowa State University in 1998. He maintains a swine exclusive veterinary practice in Holland, MI. Dr Kober completed the executive veterinary program at the University of Illinois in 1995 and is certified as a Diplomat of the Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in swine health management.

Dr Kober has been an active member of the American Association of Swine Veterinarians since 1988 and is actively involved with the board certification and examination process for swine veterinarians seeking diplomat status from the ABVP. He also serves on the AASV’s welfare committee and serves as the AASV representative on AVMA’s Clinical Practitioner Advisory Committee (CPAC). He currently coordinates the Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome area regional control (PRRS ARC) project involving western Michigan.
