Position Announcement: Virologist, Food Animal Health Research Program

The Ohio Agriculture Research and Development Center seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor with research focus in infectious viral enteric diseases and foodborne viruses. This is a twelve-month faculty appointment in the Food Animal Health Research Program, Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center with tenure-track in the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, The Ohio State University.

Responsibilities:

Develop and lead an externally funded research program on infectious viral enteric diseases of food producing animals with emphasis on swine enteric viral pathogens, foodborne viruses and zoonoses. Participates with training and mentoring of graduate students; serves on various committees; collaborates with other researchers. Candidate must be capable of directing a research program leading to scholarly publications and extramural funding.

Qualifications:

PhD degree in the field of virology/infectious disease is required. Candidates must have comprehensive training in infectious viral enteric diseases and food safety (foodborne viruses) including knowledge of current molecular virology and general virology. Ability to perform as a leader or part of a team effort is expected.

General Information:

The Food Animal Health Research Program at the OARDC maintains an internationally recognized research program in the areas of enteric and respiratory diseases of food producing animals. In addition, the Food Animal Health Research Program has initiated a research focus in Food and Environmental Safety and Zoonoses. The Program has a modern office-laboratory building and animal facilities suitable for the study of infectious diseases and foodborne pathogens. This also includes a laboratory for the procurement and maintenance of germ-free animals and a laboratory animal facility. The Research Center maintains herds and flocks of major food-producing animals for experimental studies. Excellent opportunities are available for collaboration with food, veterinary, medical, animal and plant scientists on the Wooster and Columbus campuses. The Ohio State University is a comprehensive research university with Colleges of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, and Medicine.
