Veterinarians and technicians seeking continuing education hours now have convenient online access to “Basic Veterinary Immunology and Principles of Vaccination”. The course, which provides basic information on veterinary immunology and vaccination to aid animal health, provides 17 continuing education hours. The course is approved and listed on the Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE) website of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB).
“In support of the need to make this important information widely available, Pfizer Animal Health has provided a generous grant to underwrite the delivery of the course to practicing veterinarians, technicians and veterinary students, residents and interns,” said course instructor Jim Roth, DVM, PhD, DACVM, and executive director of the Institute for International Cooperation in Animal Biologics (IICAB) at Iowa State University.
The course costs under the Pfizer Animal Health grant are $300 for practicing veterinarians and technicians and $200 for veterinary students, graduate students, interns and residents (the regular cost is $650). Participants receive 120-day access to 34 online video lectures in segments totaling 17 hours. Course notes and Power Points of lecture slides are delivered in print. To view a sample lecture and accompanying course notes and to register for the course, visit http://www.cfsph.iastate.edu/Immunology/veterinarians.php
Employees in companies and regulatory agencies continue to be able to take the course. The website containing corporate rates and group discounts is http://www.cfsph.iastate.edu/Immunology/non-veterinarians.php
“We are very pleased that this course has received RACE approval and that Pfizer Animal Health has provided funding to make the course more affordable for practicing veterinarians, technicians, and students,” said Dr. Roth. “The goal of the course is to provide an update on basic immunology and the principles of vaccination to better enable veterinarians to design effective vaccination programs tailored to the needs of their patients.”
The online course has received high overall evaluations, with respondents rating the amount of knowledge delivered “nine” on a scale of one-to-ten. The course content is the same as that delivered annually at the IICAB Veterinary Biologics Training Program. More than 1,000 participants have completed the in person or online course.
