International Symposium on Humane Euthanasia of Production Livestock

The University of Calgary Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) Pain and Animal Welfare Group and J. Woods Livestock Services are pleased to announce the International Symposium on Humane Euthanasia of Production Livestock to be held October 2 – 4, 2012 in Banff, Alberta, Canada. The symposium is the first of its kind dedicating two and a half days entirely to all aspects of the humane euthanasia of livestock in production settings.

The symposium topics include:

  • the latest in euthanasia research and new technology,
  • mass destruction,
  • training programs,
  • animal welfare considerations,
  • ethical implications, and the psychological impact on stockpersons, and
  • government regulations and recommended standards.

This symposium provides the opportunity to learn from and interact with leading experts in livestock euthanasia from around the globe.

The program is open to contributions (oral or poster presentations) on all aspects of humane euthanasia of production livestock including (but not limited to):

  • euthanasia research (equipment, technique, welfare)
  • mass destruction
  • training programs/literature
  • animal welfare considerations
  • ethics
  • psychological impacts on stockperson

If you wish to contribute please submit a title and abstract by March 15, 2012. Both oral and poster presentations will be considered.
