The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is offering a veterinary student trainee program. This program is open to current 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-year veterinary students.
As part of this program, students will work directly under the supervision of a FSIS Public Health Veterinarian (PHV) acquiring knowledge of what veterinarians do throughout the agency. By the end of the program, students will have in-depth knowledge of the entry-level PHV position, roles and responsibilities as well as understanding the career opportunities available throughout the agency for PHV’s.
To qualify for the program students:
- Must be able to work a minimum of 6 weeks (maximum 16 weeks) during summer 2011
- Starting work as early as May and completing work by the end of September
- Must be a current student at a College of Veterinary Medicine
- Must have completed the 1st year by summer 2011
- This is not for students who are about to graduate
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must submit a current unofficial transcript or current class schedule for the veterinary school being attended
- Must have a reliable mode of transportation
- Must be able to travel
