Dr. Alex Ramirez was named the 2010 recipient of the William O. Reece Faculty Advising Award. The annual award recognizes significant contributions to academic advising at Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Academic advising is important to help students achieve educational and career goals and the award honors those who have demonstrated a commitment to students.
In submitting nominations for the award, students remarked that Dr. Ramirez is "involved with everyone that comes to his door," "goes out of his way to make sure students get the answers they need," "gives his time to serve students", and "makes helping students a priority in his busy schedule."
Dr. Ramirez is an assistant professor in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine at ISU. Active in the AASV, he is the chair of the AASV Student Seminar presentations, and past judge of the student competition. At ISU, he serves as one of the advisors to the AASV Student Chapter at ISU and primary advisor for the student chapter’s Swine Diagnostic Team. He is also one of the advisors to the ISU student chapter of the Veterinary Students Mixed Animal Recruitment Team.
He is a 1993 graduate of the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine.
