“AASV Summer Conference: “”Optimizing Resources”” to Increase Revenue”

"Optimizing Resources" is the theme of the upcoming (June 22-23 in Ames, Iowa) AASV Summer Conference, and the program presents a number of tools swine practitioners can use to help their clients make the most of the resources available to them during these challenging economic times. One of these tools enables practitioners to identify the optimal market weight and feeding strategy to use in a given marketing situation in order to maximize profit in a finishing operation. Conference attendees will learn to customize the market weight model with inputs specific to their producers’ situations in order to determine the feeding and marketing strategy that will create the most revenue. Speakers Dennis DiPietre, Mike Tokach, and Craig Rowles will guide participants through the use of the tool.

Other topics to be addressed with an emphasis on "optimizing resources" include:

  • Troubleshooting ventilation systems
  • Identifying and managing the pain associated with lameness
  • Injection technologies
  • Case studies
  • Welfare and the media

The conference utilizes small group, interactive demonstrations and case study applications to enhance learning. Registration is limited to AASV members, and will be capped at 80 veterinarians and 40 veterinary students. For more information, or to register, see http://www.aasv.org/summerconf.
