Upon review of our historical attendance records, it now appears that the 2009 American Association of Swine Veterinarians’ Annual Meeting in Dallas, TX March 7 – 10 actually set an attendance record exceeding the 1997 meeting in Quebec City, Canada.
There were 607 paid registrations and approximately 1000 total attendees at this year’s meeting. Thirty-one countries were represented which is the most ever at an AASV Annual Meeting. In addition, 140 students representing 17 universities attended the meeting taking advantage of free registration and a $200 travel stipend provided by Newport Laboratories and the AASV Foundation.
Attendees also brought along their wallets and generous spirit. The AASV Foundation auction raised over $67,000 to support programs and projects benefiting the association’s members and students. Foundation President and auction committee chairman Dr. Warren Wilson expressed his appreciation to everyone who attended the auction and contributed to making it a fabulous event. He especially wanted to thank the generous contributors and recognize the hard work of the auction committee.
As always, the educational sessions were second to none and the 2009 Planning Committee Chair Dr. Butch Baker wants to thank the speakers, session moderators and the planning committee for making this year’s meeting such a success.
From the staff at AASV, thanks to everyone for your participation and we look forward to seeing you in Omaha in 2010.
