People on the Move: Dr. Rodger Main

Effective Feb. 1, Dr. Rodger Main will become the Director of Operations of the Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

Previously, Dr. Main was Director of Production Systems for Murphy-Brown Western Operations. In that role, Dr. Main served on the management team, directed veterinary services and directed production research initiatives. He replaces Dr. Lorraine Hoffman who will retire after serving as Director of Operations for the ISU VDL since 2006 and as a Bacteriology Section Leader in the lab for 32 years. Dr. Main has extensive experience managing people, building teams and leading strategic planning processes. He is an accomplished researcher with several peer-reviewed publications in the areas of swine health, nutrition and production management. Dr. Main will bring a global perspective to the ISU-VDL from his experiences managing production teams, using a variety of diagnostic services and laboratories, and influencing health assurance decisions in production systems around the world. In 2008, Dr. Main was recognized by his peers in academe, industry and private practice with the prestigious Allen D. Leman Science in Practice Award for his contributions to improving the body of knowledge related to swine health and production. Dr. Main earned his DVM from Iowa State University and a PhD from Kansas State University.
