The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is revoking the order prohibiting the extralabel use of cephalosporin antimicrobial drugs in food-producing animals. FDA received many substantive comments following issuance of the order of prohibition and is taking this action so that it may fully consider these comments.
FDA published an order July 3, 2008 prohibiting the extralabel use of cephalosporin antimicrobial drugs in food-producing animals. The order proposed to list the cephalosporin class of antimicrobials as prohibited from extralabel use in food-producing animals.
FDA may decide, after considering the comments and other relevant information, to issue another order of prohibition if deemed necessary.
