FDA Approves New EXCENEL? RTU EZ for Swine

The U.S. Food Drug Administration (FDA) has approved EXCENEL® RTU EZ (ceftiofur hydrochloride) Sterile Suspension for the treatment and control of swine respiratory disease. New EXCENEL® RTU EZ is an improved formulation which makes injections easier for user convenience.

Pfizer reports that EXCENEL® RTU EZ is significantly more syringeable when compared to EXCENEL® RTU. Another enhancement is its new yellow skirt color for easier bottle identification of open vials by users.

The intramuscular injection of EXCENEL® RTU EZ establishes therapeutic plasma concentrations in less than one hour to effectively treat and control a broad spectrum of pathogens that cause swine respiratory disease including Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida, Salmonella choleraesuis and Streptococcus suis type 2.

EXCENEL® RTU EZ should not be used in animals found to be hypersensitive to the product. EXCENEL® RTU EZ has a pre-slaughter withdrawal period of 4 days.
