Farm Bill Deadline Extended

Congress has agreed to extend the deadline for passage of the 2007 (now 2008) Farm Bill one month until April 18. This will give the conference committee more time to discuss differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill before submitting a compromised version to the White House.

It’s unclear if the extension will actually prompt the Congress to move forward on the bill considering they have already had over two months to debate the legislation and will not return from a two-week Easter recess until March 31.

The President has threatened to veto the final bill if it is too costly.
