Position Announcement (REVISED): Veterinarian QA – Pork

Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc. is seeking a Swine Quality Assurance Veterinarian for its live swine division, The Pork Group, Inc. The Pork Group has approximately 70,000 sows located in Arkansas and Oklahoma which makes it the eleventh largest producer in the United States. The Pork Group produces over 1.4 million pigs annually, most of which are sold as weaner or feeder pigs to independent production systems throughout the Midwest.

The Quality Assurance Veterinarian will not only work with the pig producers and customers in the Tyson system to identify opportunities for improvement in quality of feeder and weaner pigs, but will also then lead active collaborate efforts to capitalize on those opportunities.

Specific responsibilities include working with customer veterinarians to assess quality-related issues and coordinating with various Tyson departments to develop health and/or other strategies that address those issues. Strategies might include but would not be limited to changes in animal flows, health management, genetic improvement, and biosecurity. The Quality Assurance Veterinarian will conduct farm assessments and evaluations and will assist in training company personnel on proper animal husbandry practices. Considerable collaboration with the current Herd Health Veterinarian will occur. The Quality Assurance Veterinarian will also have lead responsibility for processes related to interstate animal movement.

The successful candidate will be expected to hold an accredited DVM degree and will be expected to have or obtain licensure in at least Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Three or more years of relevant experience is preferred but new graduates are strongly encouraged to apply. Basic computer skills are required. Several overnight trips per month will be an ongoing requirement for this position but there is some flexibility as to where the candidate may reside. This position will not have any direct reports.
