Senate confirms Schafer as next Secretary of Ag

The U.S. Senate confirmed former North Dakota Governor Ed Schafer to be the next Secretary of Agriculture on January 28th.

One of his first tasks will be to find a way to work with Congress to get the farm bill approved and signed into law as soon as possible. President Bush has threatened to veto the bill if it doesn’t include stronger farm subsidy payment limits.

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) has expressed strong support for Secretary Schafer.
