KSU?s Swine Industry Day to Focus on PCV2

Much of what researchers have learned about PCV2 will be presented on Nov. 15 during Kansas State’s annual Swine Industry Day at the KSU Alumni Center in Manhattan.

Mike Tokach, animal scientist and leader for K-State Research and Extension, said many swine producers wonder if protecting against PCV2 is worth the cost of the vaccine. K-State’s side-by-side tests of vaccinated and non-vaccinated weaning pigs have shown, however, a significant cut in the mortality rate of vaccinated pigs. K-State’s PCV2 team of researchers plans to address this concern and others during the day’s first program.

The session – Porcine Circovirus: What Have We Learned in the Last Year? – will begin at 10 a.m. on Nov. 15 and feature Lisa Tokach and Steve Henry from the Abilene Animal Hospital, as well as researchers from the K-State College of Veterinary Medicine. The program also includes a review of nutrition research conducted at KSU in the last year, a commentary by Trent Loos, and a technology trade show from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Registration for the event is $15 if, paid by Nov. 8. After that deadline, the event will cost $25. A temporary K-State parking permit is an additional $3. More information is available by contacting Lois Schreiner at 785-532-1267 or visiting http://www.ksuswine.org on the Web.
