The Western College of Veterinary Medicine has announced the opening of a new $8 million research facility targeting animal reproduction.
The Westgen Research suite, located on the campus of the University of Saskatchewan, will conduct research on advancing reproductive techniques in cattle in particular, but will also work with swine, horses and other livestock species.
In addition to traditional types of equipment, the lab also has some special rooms where investigators can research molecular techniques and practices such as in vivo fertilization. They will also be equipped to conduct studies manipulating embryos and cells that require special equipment for freezing or incubating and also special air conditions to minimize contamination.
