The AASV conducted training for members interested in utilizing the PRRS Risk Assessment Tool during the World Pork Expo.
Twelve members attended the training session which took place on Thursday, June 7th, from 8:00am to 12:00 noon in the Varied Industries Building at the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa. Successful completion of a training session is required to obtain a copy of the Risk Assessment Tool.
Some examples of when the PRA Tool and database of assessments are used include:
- Deciding to initiate a PRRS elimination project for a specific site
- How long can the site be expected to stay negative?
- Research studies using the PRA Tool to address this question are underway.
- Benchmarking biosecurity and risk management of PRRS
- On which areas of risk should attention be focused?
- Compared to other sites what areas of risk are relatively high for this site or all sites in a production system?
- Assessing risks associated with a site, or all sites in a production flow, as part of a due diligence process.
