Nebraska Updates Pseudorabies Case

Nebraska Department of Agriculture state veterinarian Dr. Dennis Hughes announced that the investigation into pseudorabies in the Genoa, Neb., area has concluded.

"We are pleased to report that none of the swine tested are infected with pseudorabies," he said. "While this is a positive step, there are still wild pigs in the area. Therefore, we encourage pork producers to be vigilant and continue to watch for any symptoms of pseudorabies."

In February, wild pigs killed in Nance County, Neb., tested positive for the disease (PRV Found in Nebraska Feral Hogs, AASV e-Letter, February 14, 2007).
