The Animal Agriculture Alliance, a broad-based coalition of individual producers, producer organizations, suppliers, packer-processors, private industry and retailers, recently released a brochure highlighting 11 producer-driven farm animal welfare programs.
Currently, nearly every farm animal organization has an animal welfare program developed by independent experts including veterinarians, scientists and others with experience and expertise providing care for farm animals. These experts constantly refine and improve these guidelines to keep pace with new research advances. These guidelines affect all meat, dairy and poultry products found in most retail outlets, with some brands adding additional requirements.
The Alliance brochure, sponsored in part by the United Soybean Board, provides a summary of each program, as well as contact information for each organization. The brochure and all information are available to the public via the Alliance website (under the Animal Welfare tab) and each individual program is featured on the relevant organization’s website.
