British Columbia to get new Diagnostic Lab

Construction is scheduled to begin in mid-December on a new $14.5 million addition to the existing Animal Health Centre in Abbotsford, BC.

The Containment Level 3 lab, designed for bacterial and viral testing, will be operational by late 2007 following validation by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The facility is being built in response to the need to deliver more timely results during an animal health incident according to Pat Bell, the province’s agriculture and land minister.
