Suspect Pigs Negative for FMD in the UK

Diagnostic samples were collected from pigs exhibiting clinical signs suggestive of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) at the same British slaughter facility where the 2001 FMD outbreak was first confirmed.

Movement restrictions were implemented at the both the slaughter facility, Cheale Meats, and the farm east of London from where the pigs were believed to have originated. In addition, an 8km surveillance zone was established around the slaughter plant.

The samples submitted to the diagnostic lab were found to be negative for FMD and Swine Vesicular Disease on October 26th.
