Slack Retires from NIAA

Glenn Slack has announced his retirement as President and CEO of the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA) effective June 30, 2006.

Slack, who has been with NIAA (formerly the Livestock Conservation Institute – LCI) for 12 years, is leaving the position to launch a new business venture that provides public relations, communications and association management services for animal agriculture and to spend more time with his wife Bethanie and their son Benjamin on the family’s farm in Russellville, KY.

NIAA’s membership is composed of producers, allied industries, and state and federal government agencies. As such, it serves as a consensus-building organization on controversial or long-term issues such as disease eradication programs, foreign animal disease preparedness, animal well-being, food safety, etc. The organization was instrumental in furthering the PRV eradication program in the 1990’s and is a leader today in promoting the development of an effective animal identification system.

The AASV has worked closely with Glenn over the last few years and wishes him the best in his future endeavors.
