CSF in Guatemala

An outbreak of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) was confirmed on April 27, 2006 at Lo de Coy village in Mixto municipality in Guatemala. The outbreak involves a swine herd with 49 animals. Thirty of the pigs died and 19 were euthanized. The last outbreak reported to OIE in Guatemala was in June, 2003.

The diagnosis was confirmed at the MAGA Reference Central Laboratory in Managua, Nicaragua using PCR. The government has undertaken control measures including stamping out, quarantine, disinfection and the vaccination of 52 animals using an attenuated virus strain PAV-250 vaccine.
