Foot and Mouth Disease Diagnosed in Palestinian Territories

The Palestinian National Authority in Nablus has confirmed an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) type O in Hebron, Jerusalem and Gaza (map).

The outbreak has affected 3 farms in Hebron infecting cattle and sheep. Also involved are sheep farms in Jerusalem and Gaza. The cattle in Hebron had been vaccinated during quarantine, but were moved before the 14 day post-vaccination waiting period. In response to the outbreak, in Hebron cattle are being vaccinated with types O, A and Asia 1 and sheep are vaccinated with type O.
