Dr. Jerry Torrison, University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, was named "Volunteer of the Year" and presented with the Chairman’s award at the annual meeting of the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA).
In presenting the 2006 Award, the immediate-past Chairman of the Board, R. L. "Rick" Sibbel, said, "Jerry Torrison has always been willing to be of great service to the Association and the industry, has great people skills and great enthusiasm for all that he does."
When contacted about the award by e-Letter, Dr. Torrison commented that "the NIAA is a good organization. People in the livestock industry who are not familiar with it may want to find out more and consider becoming involved."
NIAA’s mission is to provide a forum for building consensus and advancing solutions for animal agriculture and to provide continuing education and communications linkages for animal agriculture professionals. The Association is dedicated to programs which eradicate animal diseases, to promote safe and wholesome food at home and abroad, and to encourage best practices in environmental stewardship, animal health and well being. Its members include producers, veterinarians, scientists, state and federal officials, and business executives.
