The National Biosecurity Resource Center for Animal Health Emergencies is a cooperative effort between The Purdue Homeland Security Institute of Discovery Park, The Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, and the Indiana Board of Animal Health.
The Center’s mission is to provide information and tools to enable government, commodity groups, veterinarians, producers, and the public to meet the challenges of animal health emergencies. To date, the Center’s website has received nearly 18,000 hits from 191 countries. The new and improved website was launched in January 2006. The new website continues to house the truck wash database for the National Pork Board’s Trucker Quality Assurance Program, state regulations for carcass disposal and state regulations for reporting of animal diseases. New on the website is a searchable database for information on disinfectants. The new website will also house educational programs and informational papers on current issues in animal health.
A secure password protected, web-based tool for collection, storage, and management of resource information important to response in an animal related emergency is also a feature. Provisions are being made for web-based data entry for this tool by local authorities and voluntary data entry by local citizenry. We encourage community emergency management planners to contact us if interested in participation. The community resource information will only be available to select local authorities and will not be available to the general public.
The Center expects to service current and future biosecurity needs through discovery, teaching, and engagement with the community. Visit the Center website at http://www.biosecuritycenter.org.
