The Grain, Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) will hold three Town Hall meetings in October on the 2008 farm bill and its likely effects on the swine and poultry industries.
The public is invited to the meetings, where they can comment and recommend actions related to swine and poultry production and processing.
GIPSA will use the comments and recommendations brought forth to help write the regulations needed to implement section 11005 and 11006 of the new law, and attendees should be prepared to discuss specific problems, provisions and possible regulatory solutions. Attendees should be able to discuss the potential benefits and costs of any recommendations they suggest.
The meeting dates are Oct. 14 in Van Buren, Ark.; Oct. 16 in Ames, Iowa; and Oct. 22 in Gainesville, Ga. All meetings are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., local time. If you are unable to attend one of these meetings, you can comment via an audio bridge by calling 870-950-5739; the participant pass code is 6969173#. During the meeting, you can send questions or comments to Jeana.M.Harbison@usda.gov.
