Winning bidder: Michael O'Neal, $3000

Step back in time to the 19th century and enjoy this National treasure known as America’s Summer Palace! Charming Mackinac Island, Michigan is a throwback to old-timey seaside leisure, from the candy-colored facades of downtown shops to the impressive (record breaking, in fact) front porch of the Victorian-era Grand Hotel.

Almost all motor vehicles have been banned from Mackinac Island since 1898 so you will find car-free streets full of horse drawn carriages. World famous for its fudge, this National Historic Landmark is also home to historic Fort Mackinac. The Island’s museums and reenactments by costumed interpreters offer a glimpse into the 19th century lives of both soldiers and civilians. This ideal vacation spot is a paradise of exploration with incredible natural landmarks, awe-inspiring sunrises, and unforgettable sunsets.

This Bed and Breakfast Package at the Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island, Michigan includes:

* One Grand room, for two persons, for two nights, between May 5 – October 29, 2023 only, subject to availability.
* Breakfast daily for two persons
* Tax, local assessment, and baggage handling charges
* This package is non-transferable and non-refundable, per the hotel.
* Winner will be provided with a pre-paid certificate issued by the hotel.

The hotel fills quickly causing blackout dates so it is highly recommended the auction winner select dates as soon as possible following the auction as this is prepaid, non-refundable, and valid for the 2023 season only. Travel to and from Mackinac Island, food and drink above and beyond the included breakfasts, and any other additional expenses related to the trip are not included.

12. "Witness Love" - Carol Rodibaugh Painting in Memory of Max Rodibaugh
Donated by: Carol Rodibaugh
Winning bidder: Andrew Kleis (Insight Wealth Group), $10,400

Carol Rodibaugh has donated an original painting in memory of her late husband and AASV Past President Dr. Max Rodibaugh.

Carol says, "This is an ink and watercolor piece on deckle-edged watercolor paper approximately 16" x 22". Framed and matted, the finished piece measures 27" x 22 1/4". From the start of Max's diagnosis [glioblastoma] and through its progression, he was keeping a notebook, writing quotes, phrases, and notations that inspired or otherwise "spoke" to him in some way. The artwork's central theme is one of the quotes, and, as is my usual, there are quilt patterns chosen to emphasize the message. This particular piece is whimsical in style, and colorful, with just one little pig you will see in its corner. I think the quotation is one that reflects Max's boundless optimism and cheerful outlook, which is my family's inspiration as we all walk this road with Max in our hearts."

The painting is titled "Witness Love."

22. Burgers' Smokehouse $400 Gift Card
Donated by: Norbrook, Inc
Winning bidder: Dr. Michelle Michalak, $410

A $400 gift card for Burgers' Smokehouse! Burgers' Smokehouse is a family-owned business since 1952 in California, Missouri. Their beginnings can be traced back to 1927, the year E.M. Burger cured his first hams. It was a time when most folks didn't have iceboxes, much less refrigerators. But they had a hog or two. And they needed to eat. So using his mother's age-old curing recipe brought over from Germany, Mr. Burger cured hams using a mixture of salt, pepper and brown sugar. In that first year, he sold six hams. The next, he sold 12. In 1930, E.M. married his wife, Natalia and together, they cured and sold 24 hams. Their small business grew steadily over the years and in 1952, the first Ham House was built on the family farm. Today, Burgers' Smokehouse remains owned and operated by the third and fourth generations of the Burger family. The very first farm house still remains a part of their plant complex. Over the years, they have expanded their line to include a variety of delicious proteins, cheeses and desserts. You can find their full story and product offerings at www.smokehouse.com.

34. Bose Sport Ear Buds
Donated by: Dr. Larry Rueff
Winning bidder: Dr. Randy Anderson, $190

Bose Sport Earbuds make your music sound like the performer is right there beside you, pushing you to go one more mile or do one more rep. Bose Sport Earbuds come with three sizes of StayHear™ Max tips, so you can find the right fit for you. Every surface that touches your ear is made of soft silicone — not hard plastic — and by applying pressure evenly across your ear, the eartips avoid putting extra pressure on the most sensitive parts. Meanwhile, the unique umbrella-shaped tip and the extended flexible wing keep your Bose Sport Earbuds securely in place — without need of an ear hook — no matter how much you shake your head or jump up and down.

Instead of buttons, Bose Sport Earbuds feature a capacitive touch interface. That means the outer surface of each earbud works like a touchpad. On the right earbud, double-tap to play or pause music and to answer calls. And on the left earbud, double-tap to engage a Shortcut function of your choice.

When you get a phone call while wearing Bose Sport Earbuds, instead of interrupting your workout, simply double-tap the right earbud to answer or press and hold to reject. If you answer, you’ll hear the call clearly in both ears. Meanwhile, thanks to the beamforming microphone array that separates your voice from surrounding noise, the caller will hear you clearly, too.

Bose Sport Earbuds provide up to five hours of battery life per charge. They’re charged by placing them in the included charging case. If the case is charged, it will automatically charge the earbuds. When its fully charged, the case can provide two full charges for up to 10 more hours of use. And if your battery runs out when you’re on the go, you can do a 15-minute quick charge for up to two hours of playback time.

Bose Sport Earbuds connect to the free Bose Music app, which lets you name your earbuds, set the controls the way you like them, check your battery life, manage your Bluetooth connections, and more. It’s also how you get software updates with new features.

Winning bidder: Dr. Warren Wilson, $15

IMG_0489.jpg Dr. Boguslaw Zakrzewski lives in Poland, where he works for MSD Animal Health. He says, "As a veterinary doctor specializing in pig diseases, being frequently a guest at many AASV conferences organized in the USA, I have repeatedly observed auctions which have always been one of the parts of this wonderful undertaking. By offering this figurine, it will be a great honor for me to be helpful in a charity auction organized by American colleague veterinarians." This is the fourth year Dr. Zakrzewski has contributed to the auction.

44. Certified Talavera Ceramic Plate
Donated by: Dr. Joaquin Becerril
Winning bidder: Dr. Elizabeth Noblett, $110

Talavera is a type of majolica earthenware, a white and glazed type of ceramic. Although the Spaniards introduced this type of pottery, ironically the term Talavera is used much more in Mexico than in Talavera de la Reina, Spain. In fact, Talavera is the oldest tin-glazed ceramic in America and it is still being manufactured with the same techniques as in the 16th Century. Talavera is made from a mixture of only two clays, a dark clay and a light, slightly rose-colored clay. One characteristic of authentic Talavera pottery is the quality of detail in the painting, expertly applied. There is a raised appearance to the painted line, accompanied by a glossy sheen. Only natural earth pigments are used for the colors.

This Talavera plate was created in a certified workshop in the state of Puebla, Mexico; using the traditional Talavera process. Workshops producing authentic Talavera are certified by passing an inspection and verification process at least every six months. The Mexican Talavera Regulatory Council regulates the production of Talavera and restricts the use of the term to items produced within the designated zone of Puebla. There are less than 20 certified workshops producing genuine Talavera. Certified Talavera pieces bear the signature of the potter, the logo of the workshop and the special hologram that certifies the piece’s authenticity. Only pieces from workshops that meet the standards are certified.

This lovely plate is 28.5 cm (~11 inches) in diameter.
